I still think it’s funny

When I updated my blog earlier this year, I reviewed all the previous posts to check links and so on. And, getting a little nostalgic, I decided to take the liberty of re-posting some of my favorites this week. That may sound self-indulgent… probably because it is. Then again, these will probably be new to most of you.

I Thought it Was Funny
A new scientific research study has discovered: Women Expect Less When It Comes to Humor. Since women have learned to expect less when it comes to a lot of things, I’m not so sure humor is really such a big deal.

The article begins, “Scientists are finding a myriad of differences between the way men’s and women’s brains function.” (I don’t know about you, but I just started to expect a lot less from this article.)

“Previous work has found differences in the way we understand speech, the way we encode memories and how we develop the ability to speak.” That certainly explains why men and women have the conversation where you believe you understand what you think I said, though I’m not sure you realize what you heard is not what I meant.

Geert J. de Vries, a brain researcher at the University of Massachussets at Amherst says, “It’s simple — the male brain is designed to function best in a male body and the female brain is designed to function well in a female body.” Wait…designed? Now hold on here. When are these scientists going to learn to keep science separate from religion? Don’t be trying to use the design argument to explain your research. Sheesh.

Overall, I thought this article was actually pretty funny. Probably because I wasn’t expecting it.
